Dolan; A True Visionary
Xavier Dolan starred in his first movie called “J’ai Tué Ma Mère” in 2009 showcasing the complexity of the mother and (homosexual) son bond.
Hubert ( protagonist) is a young suburban homosexual living in a single parent house and he has conflicts with his mother about his sexual orientation amongst many other things.
It’s a great movie for teens / young adults that can relate to having some difficult times with their parents. Dolan received a standing ovation after the launch of this movie as well as winning 3 awards during the Cannes Film Festival (2009)
Xavier Dolan’s is the protagonist in his second movie “Les Amours Imaginaires” . The not so cliché romantic comedy is about 2 best friends that end up falling really hard on the same “ceasar like” handsome guy which just moves into Montreal. Both troubled by innumerable signs – some real, some imagined – the 2 friends fall deeper into their fantastical obsession and begin despising each other .
Laurence Anyways is a movie that is written/directed by Xavier Dolan. It goes into a span of 10 years into a mans life Laurence played by Melvil Poupaud transforms himself into a women which is not accepted by the people in his life.
His girlfriend Frederique who plays Suzanne Clement tries to be there for him but there’s always a limit.
Xavier Dolan stars in his psychological/ thriller movie “Tom a la Ferme”. This disturbing movie definitely keeps you awake with awkward thoughts throughout the whole movie. It talks about how Tom’s boyfriend commits suicide and decides to attend his funeral in the “boonies” where his Mother and dysfunctional brother resides. Tom finally realizes that this family has major issues but does he fall into it?

“It begins at a fever pitch and maintains that degree of in-your-face intensity for well over two hours, to either exhilarating or exhausting effect, depending on one’s tolerance level.”-Mike D’Angelo·A.V. Club
